Begin your journey with a scenic drive to the Western Coast, stopping at Fort São Antonio in Axim, Fort Apollonia in Beyin, the beautiful beach at Busua, and Nkroful, the birthplace of Ghana's first president, Kwame Nkrumah. Next, head to Nzulezu, a remarkable stilt village located approximately five kilometers from the nearest road and accessible only by dugout canoe. Home to around 500 Nzema people, the village is built entirely above the water, with houses, a school, a church, and even a bar standing on wooden stilts. The journey is an experience in itself. A roughly one-hour canoe ride takes you through narrow waterways surrounded by lush wetland vegetation, with opportunities to spot kingfishers and, occasionally, crocodiles. The experience at Nzulezu changes with the seasons. During the dry months, falling water levels mean visitors must walk approximately one kilometer before reaching the canoe boarding point. If In the rainy season, higher water levels allow you to paddle almost the entire way to the village, often offering better opportunities to observe the wetland's wildlife.
