Homowo means “hooting at hunger” — and that’s exactly what you’ll do. Centuries ago the Ga people survived a devastating famine, harvested their way back to abundance, and have thrown a festival every year since to jeer at hunger’s face. This is your all-access pass to that one unforgettable day in Jamestown, Accra — no hotel required. You’re already in Accra. We handle the rest: a Ga guide who actually knows the families and the chiefs, access to the kpokpoi sprinkling (the sacred moment the priests feed the ancestors), the durbar of chiefs in full red-and-gold regalia, the drumming processions, the twins’ celebration, and the street carnival at Bukom. Then you eat kpokpoi and palm-nut soup the way it’s meant to be eaten — shoulder to shoulder with the neighbourhood. About your date — this is the real festival, not a “pick any day” tour. Homowo isn’t a single day: each Ga town sets its own date on its own ritual calendar, and the date you book will be that town’s actual festival day, not an arbitrary one. This pass is rolled forward to the 2027 season. Ga Mashie’s main Homowo day has fallen on a Saturday in early-to-mid August every year on record (2020–2026), but the exact date shifts year to year at the Ga Traditional Council’s discretion and is normally only confirmed a few months ahead — so we are not able to state a specific 2027 date yet, and are not guessing one. We will publish the confirmed 2027 dates for Ga Mashie, Osu and Teshie as soon as each town’s council announces them, and will lock your exact day at that point.
