The day that shows you Ghana beyond the coast — Wli Waterfalls, Mount Afadjato, and a sanctuary full of wild monkeys who couldn't care less about your Accra life, done properly in one long day from the capital. We leave at 5am (yes, really — it's a 3.5-hour drive northeast into the Volta Region, and we want daylight and cool air for the hiking), crossing the Adomi Bridge over the Volta Lake on the way in. First stop is Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, where the resident mona monkeys come right up for bananas — bring small bills, the donation goes straight to the community that protects them. Next is Mount Afadjato (or nearby Mount Gemi, depending on trail access that day), Ghana's highest peak: about an hour up, an hour down, no technical gear, just real shoes and water. We close at Wli Waterfalls, the tallest in West Africa — a shaded 40-minute forest walk with eleven stream crossings, bats roosting near the base, and a genuinely cold plunge pool if you want to swim. This is a full, active day (5am to roughly 7pm), with real walking and one real climb — not a bus-window tour. Bring a change of clothes, good shoes, and cash for the sanctuary donation and any small vendor stalls along the way.
