Abseiling in Ghana
Clip in and walk backwards off the historic Adomi Bridge, descending toward the green Volta below — Ghana’s biggest adrenaline hit.
The hardest step is the first one, over the edge. Everything after is pure.
What is abseiling at Adomi Bridge?
Abseiling (or rappelling) is a controlled rope descent — and there’s no better place to try it in Ghana than the Adomi Bridge, the elegant steel arch spanning the Volta River. Kitted out in a harness and helmet by trained instructors, you’ll ease over the edge and lower yourself down the rope with the green water below. It’s heart-in-your-mouth on the way over, and a grin the whole way down.

The Adomi Bridge
Opened in 1957, the Adomi Bridge is Ghana’s landmark suspension arch, carrying the road across the Volta River near Atimpoku in the Eastern Region — about two hours from Accra. It’s a beautiful piece of engineering, and now a playground for abseilers. Pair it with kayaking below or a hike in the surrounding hills, or do the lot on the Akosombo Adventure Day.
