3 weeks of music, culture, and homecoming energy that transforms Ghana into the centre of the Black world. This is your guide to doing it right.
Plan it, book it, do it — your whole Ghana trip in one app.
Detty December is Ghana's annual December homecoming — a month-long celebration that draws thousands of diaspora travelers, artists, and culture seekers to Accra. The word "detty" (dirty, intense, unforgettable) captures the energy perfectly: nonstop concerts, beach parties, cultural festivals, fashion events, and New Year's Eve celebrations that rival anywhere on earth.
What started as informal Year of Return gatherings in 2019 has become the biggest annual event for the Black diaspora. International artists headline AfroFuture Festival. Rooftop parties run until sunrise. And between the parties, you'll find naming ceremonies at Cape Coast Castle, kente weaving workshops in Bonwire, and jollof cook-offs that settle the Ghana-vs-Nigeria debate once and for all.
Whether it's your first time or your fifth, this guide covers everything: the events, the packages, when to book, what to pack, and how to avoid the mistakes first-timers make. Updated April 2026.
