Day 1 Arrive in Accra — Welcome to Ghana

Morning/Afternoon: Your driver meets you at Kotoka International Airport with a cold towel and water. Transfer to your 4-star hotel in the Osu or Labone district — the cultural heart of Accra.

Evening: After settling in, your guide takes you to Osu’s Oxford Street for your first taste of Ghanaian nightlife. Try kelewele (spiced plantain) from a street vendor and a Star beer at a rooftop bar. This is the gentle introduction your jet-lagged body needs.

Included: Airport transfer, hotel check-in, welcome dinner, evening orientation walk.

Day 2 Accra — History, Markets & Nightlife

Morning: Start at Jamestown, Accra’s oldest neighbourhood. Walk through the lighthouse district, watch fishermen haul in the morning catch, and photograph the striking colonial architecture that tells the story of Ghana’s past.

Midday: Visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial — the mausoleum of Ghana’s founding father. Then dive into Makola Market, the largest open-air market in West Africa. Your guide navigates the maze of fabrics, spices, and handcrafted goods while you soak up the energy.

Evening: Dinner at a top Accra restaurant followed by an optional nightlife tour — Labone, Osu, and the famous Republic Bar. Browse Accra experiences to add specific events.

Included: Guided Jamestown walk, Nkrumah Memorial entry, market tour, restaurant dinner, transport.

Day 3 Cape Coast — Castle, Elmina & the Door of No Return

Morning: Depart Accra early for the 3-hour drive west to Cape Coast. Your private vehicle makes the journey comfortable with stops for coconut water and roadside snacks.

Midday: Tour Cape Coast Castle, the UNESCO World Heritage Site that served as a major slave trading post. Stand in the dungeons, walk through the Door of No Return, and let your guide bring 400 years of history to life. This is the most emotionally powerful experience in Ghana.

Afternoon: Continue to Elmina Castle, the oldest European building in sub-Saharan Africa (built 1482). The contrast between the whitewashed exterior and the dark history within is unforgettable.

Evening: Check into your Cape Coast hotel. Dinner overlooking the Atlantic. See our heritage tour package for extended Cape Coast options.

Included: Private transport, castle entries, licensed guide, hotel, dinner.

Day 4 Kakum — Canopy Walk & Rainforest Hike

Morning: Drive 30 minutes north to Kakum National Park, one of West Africa’s last remaining tropical rainforests. The highlight: a canopy walkway suspended 40 metres above the forest floor across seven rope-and-plank bridges.

Midday: After the canopy walk, take a guided rainforest hike to spot birds, butterflies, and if you’re lucky, forest elephants or bongo antelope. Your guide identifies medicinal plants and explains traditional forest uses.

Afternoon: Depart for the 4-hour drive north to Kumasi, the cultural capital of the Ashanti Kingdom. The route passes through cocoa country and small villages — your guide stops at interesting points along the way.

Evening: Arrive Kumasi, check into hotel, dinner at a local restaurant.

Included: Kakum entry + canopy walk, rainforest hike, private transport to Kumasi, hotel, dinner.

Day 5 Kumasi — Manhyia Palace & Kejetia Market

Morning: Visit Manhyia Palace, the seat of the Ashanti king (Asantehene). The museum inside tells the story of the powerful Ashanti Empire through artefacts, regalia, and guided narrative. Ghana’s cultural soul lives in Kumasi.

Midday: Dive into Kejetia Market — the largest single-roof market in West Africa with over 10,000 stalls. Your guide leads you through the fabric section, bead-makers, and spice traders. This is where you find the best kente cloth directly from weavers.

Afternoon: Drive to a kente weaving village (Bonwire or Adanwomase) and watch master weavers create the iconic Ghanaian fabric on traditional looms. You can commission a custom piece and have it shipped home.

Evening: Traditional Ashanti dinner. Optional: attend a cultural performance if one is scheduled. Use our AI Trip Planner to check events on your dates.

Included: Palace entry, market guide, kente village visit, all meals, transport.

Day 6 Volta Region — Lake Bosomtwe or Wli Waterfalls

Morning: Choose your adventure. Option A: Drive to Lake Bosomtwe, a sacred crater lake and the only natural lake in Ghana. Swim, kayak, or simply take in the stunning crater views. Option B: Head east to Wli Waterfalls, the tallest waterfall in West Africa at 80 metres. The 45-minute hike through fruit bat colonies is as memorable as the waterfall itself.

Midday: Lunch at a lakeside or village restaurant. Your guide arranges everything based on your choice.

Afternoon: Drive back toward Accra (3–4 hours depending on route). The journey passes through lush countryside and hill towns. Stop at roadside stalls for fresh coconut and roasted plantain.

Evening: Arrive Accra, check into your final hotel. Light dinner and early rest before your last full day. Want to explore more of Ghana? Check our vacation packages to extend your trip.

Included: Activity entry fees, guided hike, lunch, private transport, hotel, dinner.

Day 7 Accra — Arts, Cooking Class & Farewell Dinner

Morning: Visit the Accra Arts Centre (Centre for National Culture) for last-minute souvenir shopping — wood carvings, paintings, jewellery, and drums at negotiable prices. Your guide ensures you pay fair prices.

Midday: Hands-on Ghanaian cooking class with a local chef. Learn to make jollof rice (the dish that starts friendly arguments across West Africa), groundnut soup, and banku with tilapia. You take the recipes home. Explore our food tasting tour if you want to extend this into a full culinary experience.

Afternoon: Free time for last-minute exploration, a spa visit, or simply relaxing by the hotel pool. Your guide is available if you want to squeeze in one more sight.

Evening: Farewell dinner at one of Accra’s finest restaurants — a celebration of the week with your guide and driver. Share stories, exchange contacts, and plan your return trip (they all come back).

Included: Arts Centre visit, cooking class, farewell dinner, airport transfer (if departing tonight).
